Edward Burtynsky

is a Canadian photographer that takes pictures of manufactured landscapes. Sometimes brilliant colour, breathtaking views, or stunning scenes.

"Nature transformed through industry is a predominate theme in my work. I set course to intersect with a contemporary view of the great ages of man; from stone, to minerals, oil, transportation, silicon, and so on."

"We are drawn by desire - a chance at good living, yet we are consciously or unconsciously aware that the world is suffering for our success. Our dependence on nature to provide the materials for our consumption and our concern for the health of our planet sets us into an uneasy contradiction. For me, these images function as reflecting pools of our times."

Boys.

School aged boys read everything but general fiction first. They read sci fi, history, war, fantasy, cars, sports, animals, jokes and cartoons first.

However in schools, all they seem to read is General Fiction. I think it is true that for free time reading they seem to be able to choose what they would like. But for storytime, although they may like the story, the librarian or teachers seem to choose fiction books. I know they have to reach the whole class but...

"Whoever would be a teacher of men let him begin by teaching himself before teaching others; and let him teach by example before teaching by word. For he who teaches himself and rectifies his own ways is more deserving of respect and reverence than he who would teach others and rectify their ways."

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

-Dalai Lama
There has grown in the minds of certain groups in this country the idea that just because a man or corporation has made a profit out of the public for a number of years, the government and the courts are charged with guaranteeing such profit in the future, even in the face of changing circumstances and contrary to public interest. This strange doctrine is supported by neither statue or common law. Neither corporations or individuals have the right to come into court and ask that the clock of history be stopped, or turned back.

-Robert Heinlein, Life Line, 1939
Life's not too short. It's just that you're dead for so long.

Don't you hate when you're writing a tune, and you want to put a D throw after something, and that makes you get stuck in composing any further. Maybe I have a passion for D throws. I play a light throw and used to love the way I play them, now... I kinda have a hunkerin to play a heavy through. I have even been known to throw one in now and then when nobody is listening.
